Serra Chapel (Chapel on the Hill) in Shandon is an enchanting chapel completed in 1993 by Joan and her husband Judge William J. Clark. They had purchased some artifacts from the William Randolph Hearst collection including the Moorish ceiling, French window surrounds and other items. The Clarks always envisioned building a chapel with the artifacts. Some say there is a bone relic of Saint Junipero Serra within the chapel. Mission San Miguel de Arcangel was founded in 1797 by Father Fermín Lasuén and Father Buenaventura Sitjar. It was conveniently located between Mission San Juis Obispo and Mission San Antonio de Padua, which was a two day journey back in the day. The mission is currently used by the Parish of Monterey. Some say 1000 vines were planted. Since 1990 the number of wineries in Paso Robles has grown from 20 to over 200 with 11 viticulture designated areas. Morro Bay has been a popular beach holiday destination for county residents and visitors for many years. The town was founded by Franklin Riley in 1870 for the export of dairy and other agricultural products. He was instrumental in building the wharf to help with shipping. Morro Rock is actually a volcanic plug rising 576’. The Morro Bay Blue Butterfly was discovered here in June, 1929 by entomologist, Robert Sternitzky.
